The national footwear industry will continue to Newalk project, which enabled the development of 80 new products.
The consortium coordinated from São João da Madeira by the Technological Center of Portugal footwear (CTCP) wants to strengthen the cluster as "an international benchmark of sophistication and creativity."
The proposal comes in the new project, called the FOOTure2020, which is being prepared to take advantage of funds from the next EU funds.
The Newalk project, which involved dozens of companies and entities of the national scientific systems, ended with the presentation of 80 new products that allow consolidate the Portuguese footwear industry at the forefront of technological process worldwide.
In the next step, the Portuguese Association of Footwear Industry, Components, Leather Goods and their substitutes (APICCAPS), as the main promoter, points to actions that allow "the strengthening of exports, sustained on a national, sustainable and highly competitive produtivia base "where innovation will remain one of the values" structuring the top priority, "said Leandro Melo, head of the CTCP.
The footwear industry, which has in Aveiro Norte one of its strongest cores, exports 95% of its production, having collected through the project Newalk contributions to application of new materials, components or take advantage of leather capabilities, but also development production models with greater specialization and flexibility.
Many of the consortium companies implemented the innovations that are being marketed.
