Footwear exports hit new record


Sales to markets outside the European Union soared.

Portuguese companies in the footwear industry exported last year, EUR 1.78 million million, an increase of 7.8% compared to 1,651 million achieved in 2012, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

Footwear industry wants to sell "more expensive" and refuses low wages


Sector Strategy 2020 showed that bets on design , trendy and refusal skills and competitiveness model based on low wages .

The strategic plan that will guide the footwear industry by 2020 recognizes that " Portugal exports expensive," but admits that " wants to export more expensive shoes ." Without it being explicitly stated , the main objective of the company for the next cycle is to get closer to Italy in the lead for the most expensive shoes in the world.
