Portugal is currently the seventh footwear supplier for China, with exports to that country tripled in the last four years to more than EUR 22 million, released today the industry association.

Portuguese footwear is fashionable. Proving this are the export figures that do not stop growing. For the third consecutive year. Until July, the industry sold abroad shoes valued at 1,028 million euros, an increase of 4.25 % over the same period. And it did it without reducing prices. Quite the contrary. Just last year, according to data from the National Statistical Institute , the average price rose over 15 % to 22.71 euros , the second most expensive in the world . The top spot in the ' ranking ' is up to Italy.
Footwear sector with positive signs in employment

Since the beginning of the year, several companies in the sector are building new production units within the country.
The "vast majority" of Portuguese footwear companies complain that the current state of business is "enough", giving "positive signs" regarding the evolution of employment, according to the analysis of the 2nd trimester situation released today by the trade association.
